ChatGPT - OpenAI releases GPT-5 models

OpenAI has launched its new flagship model, GPT-5, which replaces all other models (GPT-4o, o3, o4-mini, and others) in ChatGPT. Even customers without a paid subscription can use GPT-5 in ChatGPT, but there are rate limits.

The details

  • OpenAI says GPT-5 is smarter than the previous models and provides more useful responses in areas like math, science, finance, and more.
  • The model family of GPT-5 includes three variants: GPT-5, GPT-5 Pro, and GPT-5 Mini. The models have a context window of 256,000 tokens, which is equivalent to about 200,000 words.
  • According to OpenAI, GPT-5 is more useful for real-world queries. The model should also have fewer hallucinations and follow instructions more precisely. That enhances GPT-5’s performance in everyday tasks, like writing or coding.
  • Free users get access to GPT-5 with rate limits. Plus users have higher limits, and Pro users have access to GPT-5 Pro without rate limits. When free users or Plus users reach their rate limits, GPT-5 Mini is used.

Our thoughts

OpenAI has finally removed all the other models in ChatGPT and is now using a single model again. The many models may have confused many users.

GPT-5 is one of the most powerful models available, but it is not the promised AGI. It shows strong results in the Humanity’s Last Exam benchmark. Humanity’s Last Exam (HLE) is a challenging intelligence test with more than 2,500 problems.

In our opinion, the model will become very popular because it combines the strengths of previous models into a single model. Today’s AI chatbots feel like having a team of experts, ready to help you.
