Deutsche Telekom announces an AI Phone
Deutsche Telekom, the parent company of T-Mobile, announced an AI Phone in partnership with Perplexity at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
The details
- With the AI Phone, the app jungle should be a thing of the past. According to Deutsche Telekom, you can easily order a cab, reserve a table, translate in real-time, or answer questions with the AI Phone.
- Deutsche Telekom partners with leading AI companies like Perplexity, ElevenLabs, and Google to implement these AI features.
- Perplexity Assistant is the core of the AI Phone. Google Cloud AI will handle real-time translation, and ElevenLabs* will be used for podcast creation.
- According to Deutsche Telekom, the AI Phone will be available in the second half of 2025.
Our thoughts
Last year, Deutsche Telekom presented the concept of an AI Phone, and now it seems we are close to a market launch. Thanks to strong partners, the AI Phone will be equipped with cutting-edge technology.
In our opinion, in-house developments are usually the better products. A good example of an in-house product is Apple’s iPhone. Having many partners creates a lot of dependencies for Deutsche Telekom, and different technologies need to be combined. We are curious to see whether the AI Phone will be successful.
