Google releases new models for on-device AI
Google launched Gemma 3n, which brings powerful multimodal capabilities to mobile and edge devices.

The details
- Gemma 3n is a family of open AI models (2B and 4B parameters). Google trained the models using data from more than 140 languages.
- The models are designed to work efficiently on devices like laptops, tablets, and phones. To achieve this, the models use a selective parameter activation technique to reduce resource requirements.
- The models natively understand image, audio, video, and text inputs. The models are available on Ollama and Hugging Face.
- Gemma 3n supports 140 languages for text and has a multimodal understanding of 35 languages. The 4B version is the first model with under 10B parameters to achieve an LMArena score of over 1300.

Our thoughts
Google is delivering right now. In our view, they are currently the clear number 1 in the field of AI. Google has the advantage of having everything in-house (models, AI chips, and cloud) that is needed to remain a market leader.
