Hermes Agent Is Trending on GitHub
Hermes Agent is a self-improving open-source AI agent built by Nous Research. It’s an autonomous agent that runs on your server, remembers what it’s learned, and becomes more capable over time.

The details
-
In comparison to OpenClaw, which relies on coordinating multiple agents, Hermes Agent is a single agent. You can import your OpenClaw settings, skills, and memories to Hermes Agent in seconds.
-
Hermes Agent extracts effective strategies, saves them as reusable skills, and loads them whenever a similar problem comes up. That means that the agent independently develops skills by working through complex tasks. The learning loop runs automatically.
-
You can interact with the agent via Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, Email, or CLI. In addition, you can use any model you want for that, either via an API or your own endpoint.
-
Once you’re in a chat, you have access to many slash commands. It’s like chatting with an employee, only they’re not human. Next-level human-machine interaction.
Our thoughts
Hermes Agent is easier to set up than OpenClaw. For beginners, it’s better to start with Hermes Agent. Some developers on X even run both systems side by side on the same computer.
However, we would never run autonomous systems like OpenClaw or Hermes Agent on our own laptop without a secure environment. Instead, we recommend using a dedicated computer like a Mac mini or Mac Studio.
Then, the system can run autonomously around the clock using the provided information. If you still want to run it on your computer, you should definitely run it with Docker in a secure environment. This way, your personal files and main operating system are protected.
