Meta FAIR releases new research artifacts to achieve AMI
Meta has the goal to achieve AMI (Advanced Machine Intelligence). Now Meta FAIR (Fundamental AI Research) has released a Perception Encoder, a Collaborative Reasoner framework, a Perception Language Model, and Meta Locate 3D for robotics.

The details
- The Perception Encoder can be used to build advanced computer vision systems that can assist people in everyday tasks. This includes image recognition and object detection. According to Meta FAIR, vision encoders act as “eyes“ for AI systems.
- The Collaborative Reasoner is designed to enhance the ability of a language model to work together with others. According to Meta FAIR, it can also be useful for a language model agent to collaborate with itself, as current models cannot improve task performance through collaboration.
- The Perception Language Model (PLM) is an open and reproducible vision-language model designed to handle challenging visual recognition tasks. There are versions with 1, 3, and 8 billion parameters, making it ideal for “fully transparent academic research”. It’s available on Hugging Face.
- Meta Locate 3D is an end-to-end model that can accurately find the location of objects from queries. The model considers spatial relationships and context to identify specific objects. The model is ideal for robots that collaborate with humans.
Our thoughts
Meta FAIR operates in a very scientific way, and the results are mostly shared as open source. That encourages scientific exchange in the field of AI. Overall, we appreciate Meta’s open-source approach.
