👩🏽‍💻 More and more developers are using AI tools in their daily work

A study by GitHub shows that most professional developers use AI tools. In the study, 2000 people from software development teams in the U.S., Brazil, India, and Germany were asked about the use of generative AI tools.

The details:

  • Almost everyone (more than 97%) said they had used AI tools at some point both inside and outside of work.
  • In the USA, 87% of companies explicitly allow AI, in Brazil 76%, in India 79%, and in Germany 59%.
  • 14% of companies in Germany prohibit the use of AI tools.
  • Benefits of AI coding tools: Building more secure software, better code quality, and improved test case generation. This saves time for strategic tasks.

Our thoughts

In our opinion, the benefits of generative AI tools are growing every day, and AI assistants are particularly useful in software development.

And you don’t need an expensive cloud version. AI can also be used cost-effectively on local machines in software development.

🤖 Microsoft’s new SLM beats larger AI models

Microsoft has released Phi-3.5-MoE, an advanced AI model that can rival the reasoning capabilities of much larger models. Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) is a machine learning technique that uses several expert networks (learners).

The details:

  • Phi-3.5-MoE outperforms models like Meta’s Llama 3.1 8B and Google’s Gemma 2 9B in several benchmarks
  • Context length up to 128K
  • It performs very well in the Math and Code Generation tasks.
  • Compact and efficient architecture
  • The model is available under the MIT license on Hugging Face.

Our thoughts

Small generative AI models are becoming more and more powerful, which makes it possible to run them on computers with fewer resources, e.g.: laptops. That’s great, so you can also experiment with powerful generative AI models on normal laptops.

💬 xAI releases their most intelligent model

The AI startup xAI has released Grok 2 in a beta version for X Premium subscribers worldwide. It is a powerful new AI model that can access real-time data from the social media platform X.

The details:

  • Access to real-time information from X, which is a big difference to other LLMs.
  • Grok 2 has two modes: regular and fun
  • You can use Grok 2 to summarize news or to generate images using the Flux.1 model

🤔 We have access to Grok. If you have any questions about Grok, please write them in the comments.

Our thoughts

One of the biggest advantages of Grok is the access to real-time data from X. If something happens in the world, you usually find it on X first. Another advantage is the powerful image generator based on the Flux.1 model, whereby only Premium+ users can generate an unlimited number of images.

We primarily use Grok to generate title images for blog articles or presentations.
