OpenAI releases GPT-4.1, o3 and o4-mini
This week, OpenAI released a bunch of new AI models. Starting with GPT-4.1 up to o3 and o4-mini. One thing that stands out is the naming convention, which is quite irritating. This is because GPT-4.1 replaces GPT-4.5 in the API.
The details
- GPT-4.1 comes in three variants: GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, and GPT-4.1 nano. The new model family is only available via API and is designed for developers. All three models have a context window of 1 million tokens and a knowledge base cutoff of June 2024.
- In addition, OpenAI released two new reasoning models called o3 and o4-mini. According to OpenAI, these are the smartest models they have released so far.
- Both models (o3 and o4-mini) can use and combine all tools within ChatGPT, including web search, Python analysis, visual reasoning, and image generation. The models decide for themselves when they need specific abilities.
- The models o3 and o4-mini are now available for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team users. ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu users will get access next week. Free users get limited access to o4-mini.
