PayPal announces the integration into ChatGPT
PayPal is working with OpenAI to enable Instant Checkout and Agentic Commerce in ChatGPT. Starting in 2026, millions of ChatGPT users will be able to make payments using PayPal in the chatbot.

The details
-
PayPal plans to use OpenAI’s Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP) to enhance payments and commerce within ChatGPT. ACP is an open-source standard developed by OpenAI and Stripe.
-
In addition, PayPal plans to connect its global merchant network with OpenAI, creating a platform for millions of small and large businesses to sell within ChatGPT.
-
PayPal CEO Alex Chriss said that “by partnering with OpenAI and adopting the Agentic Commerce Protocol, PayPal will power payments and commerce experiences that help people go from chat to checkout in just a few taps for our joint customer bases.”
-
In addition, buyer and seller protection from PayPal, as well as post-purchase services like tracking and dispute resolution, are also supported in ChatGPT.
Our thoughts
The future of shopping and e-commerce seems to be shifting more and more towards chatbots like ChatGPT. PayPal is not the first partner in OpenAI’s e-commerce plans. Etsy and Shopify have been integrated since September 2025.
Have you already ordered something through ChatGPT, or do you prefer the websites of the providers?
