Hi AI Enthusiast,
Welcome to our weekly Magic AI, where we bring you the latest updates on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in an accessible way. This week’s Magic AI tool is perfect for all Video Creators and Bloggers! Be curious! 😀
Top AI news of the week
🤖 Cognition AI introduced the AI Software Engineer Devin
The startup Cognition AI introduced Devin, an autonomous AI agent that can write entire software projects by itself using text prompts. Cognition has so far published a few technical information about Devin. The blog post only contains a short description of the system and some sample videos.
The AI agent is currently in the beta phase and is not publicly available. Below are some of the tasks that Devin can solve according to the startup.
- Build and deploy apps end-to-end
- Find and fix autonomously bugs in codebases
- Train and fine-tune LLMs
- Processing bugs and feature requests in open-source repositories
You can find all functionalities and videos on the website of Cognition AI.
According to the blog post, Devin can solve almost 14 percent of the problems on the SWE-bench. The benchmark measures how well LLMs perform on real-world GitHub issues.
Our thoughts
Cognition AI claims to have created a real artificial software developer. Software engineers currently use AI tools such as GitHub Copilot to help them with certain tasks.
In the future, AI will be able to take on more and more tasks, as the demonstration by AI agent Devin shows.
Devin shows what the future of software engineering could look like. Step by step, we are approaching an autonomous future made up of AI agents.
Andrej Karpathy, previously Director of AI at Tesla, provides a good summary. 👇🏽

In my mind, automating software engineering will look similar to automating driving. E.g. in self-driving the progression of increasing autonomy and higher abstraction looks something like:
1. first the human performs all driving actions… https://t.co/u2EXfxcV6e

🇪🇺 EU Parliament approves AI Act
After three years, the EU Parliament approved the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) on Wednesday. The AI Act contains the following:
- Ban on AI apps for biometric identification and facial recognition for sensitive characteristics, social scoring, and AI to manipulate or exploit user vulnerabilities.
- Strict requirements for high-risk AI applications, e.g. in the areas of critical infrastructure, education, and employment.
- Compliance with EU copyright law and labeling of AI-generated content (image, audio, video, text)
Companies fear that the AI Act will restrict the competition, and the competition authorities argue that it does not go far enough.
The AI Act will take effect in around two years, and all the key points are known. Companies should be prepared for this.
Our thoughts
AI impacts us all! It is crucial that copyrights are respected. We can only achieve fair competition if companies globally adhere to the same regulations.
Regulations are necessary, but they shouldn’t come at the cost of the competitiveness of EU companies.

💬 xAI’s Chatbot Grok goes open-source
Elon Musk has announced on his social media platform X that his startup xAI will open-source its chatbot Grok this week. xAI introduced the chatbot in November 2023 as a ChatGPT competitor with real-time internet access via X.
xAI joins companies such as Meta and Mistral AI, which also make their models available as open-source. OpenAI is one of the few that keeps its models private.
Our thoughts
The release of Grok as open-source could increase interest in xAI’s AI technology. It could also lead to further improvements to the model by open-source developers. Meta’s Llama 2 model is already very popular with the open-source community.
