🤖 Meta wants to develop an Open AGI

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, aims to develop Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) without a clear timeline or definition. He talked about Meta’s AI efforts in a video on Threads. In addition, he restructures the company to integrate its AI research group with the team creating AI products for Meta’s apps. Meta invests heavily in computing power, with plans to own more than 340,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs by the end of this year. Zuckerberg believes AGI will be a gradual process.

In addition, Meta is currently training Llama 3 and believes it could become a leading model in the industry. Meta focuses on open-source AI, but Zuckerberg does not want to commit himself to future models. In general, however, he prefers open source. Despite the new focus on AI, Zuckerberg insists Meta remains committed to its metaverse vision.

Our thoughts

It’s good to hear that Meta has continued to embrace the open approach to AI going forward. Meta can also switch to a closed approach at any time. The definition of AGI is still open. It will be exciting to see when we start talking about AGI.

🦾 Musk wants to develop Tesla into a leading company in the fields of AI and robotics

Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, wants to increase his voting control in the company to 25% to lead its AI and robotics initiatives. If he doesn’t get more control, he may develop these technologies outside of Tesla. Tesla generates most of its revenue from its automotive business. Elon Musk currently owns around 13% of Tesla stock after selling some shares in 2022. Tesla has been developing the Full Self Driving system for autonomous driving for years. Tesla is also currently developing a prototype for a humanoid robot called Optimus.

Our thoughts

Elon Musk wants more voting control of the company to transform Tesla to a leader in artificial intelligence and robotics. Many shareholders are certainly irritated by the move. In our opinion, Tesla should be a leader in AI and robotics, which is why we welcome the move.

💬 Apple relocates San Diego AI Team to Texas

Apple has requested its San Diego Siri quality control team to relocate to Austin, Texas. This team is responsible for monitoring Siri’s responses by listening to user interactions. The sudden move to Texas is a surprise, and those unwilling to relocate may lose their jobs by April 26.

Apple recently released frameworks and libraries for AI development on code repositories and is working on optimizing LLMs for use on Apple devices. The Siri voice assistant has lagged behind comparable assistants for years. Despite falling behind in AI, Apple is investing heavily to improve, with plans to announce its Large Language Models (LLMs) strategies in June.

Our thoughts

The restructuring of the Siri team could lead to more efficient Siri development. Siri has lagged behind the competition for years. An integration of Generative AI in Siri would be desirable for this year. We may find out more in June.
