🤖 StackOverflow announces OverflowAI

StackOverflow’s traffic has been declining for several years, and the release of ChatGPT has exacerbated this. To counter this trend, StackOverflow has announced OverflowAI. OverflowAI is not a tool but a collection of different generative AI initiatives. They want to replace their search functionality with a generative AI-powered one. You can ask a question, and the AI generates a summary of existing answers.

In the answers, the sources are indicated so that the authors get the credit and users can trace the results at any time. The aim is to create a conversational, human-centered search. Another interesting feature is a Visual Studio Code extension to ask questions from your IDE. You select a code snippet, ask a question and get an answer directly. The alpha for OverflowAI starts in August.

The developers promise great progress in the area of “fine-tuning”. However, this is still in beta version, according to the announcement.

🌍 OpenAI CEO launches cryptocurrency Worldcoin

Open AI CEO Sam Altman has launched Worldcoin, a cryptocurrency that aims to create a global identity and financial network with a unique digital identity (World ID) for individuals. If you would like a World ID, you must sign up for a personal iris scan. The project aims to differentiate humans from AI, and potentially lead to an AI-funded universal basic income. However, data protectionists warn consumers not to have their biometric data, such as fingerprints or iris scans, collected and deposited with non-governmental institutions.
