💬 Microsoft announces AI-powered Copilot+ PCs

Microsoft has presented a new AI-powered computer category called Copilot+ PC. These are Windows laptops with integrated AI hardware and support for AI functions in the operating system.

One of the new functions is the “Recall” function, which uses AI to create a searchable “photographic memory” of everything users have done and seen on their PCs. According to Microsoft, it has a local data processing, and “you are always in control with privacy”.

In addition, the tools Paint and Photos are also getting new AI functions. You can also create endless AI images with Image Creator on Copilot+ PCs. Mircosoft plans to launch the first Copilot+ PCs with Qualcomm processors on June 18. Copilot+ PCs with Intel and AMD processors come at a later date.

Our thoughts

Microsoft presented a lot of new AI-powered functions. The function “Recall” regularly takes screenshots of your screen. According to Microsoft the data will be processed locally. But at some point there will probably also the option to activate cloud processing. And then all our data on the screen will be transferred to a cloud.

🤖 Elon Musk’s Vision of the future: AI provides “universal high income”

On Thursday, Elon Musk talked at the Viva Technology conference about his companies and the future of AI. He said that in the future, robots will work for people. At best, working will still be a hobby. Everyone will have access to a “universal high income”.

He added that in a world where money and work do not play a role, other problems can arise. He believes that people may lack a sense of purpose in life because they don’t have jobs.

Elon Musk and his company Tesla are working on this future. Tesla is developing the humanoid robot Optimus. Optimus is designed to work in factories and to help with the household.

Our thoughts

A future in abundance and without work. Is that possible? AI systems are becoming more powerful. ChatGPT voice functions sound human, allowing real conversations with interruptions. The development of humanoid robots is progressing rapidly. Think of the robots Optimus, Atlas, or Unitree G1.

In our opinion, this really could be possible in the future. However, the power of these technologies currently primarily has big technology companies. In addition, we as humans must also have control over this technology.

🚀 AI boom boosts NVIDIA’s profits

Nvidia’s revenues continue to skyrocket. NVIDIA sells AI chips to all the big tech companies and is making record profits.

From February to the end of April 2024, the company generated sales of over USD 26 billion (+262 %). In addition, the company had an operating income of USD 16.9 billion and retained a net income of USD 14.9 billion. In terms of net income, Nvidia reaches the level of the company Alphabet.

Our thoughts

Big Tech focuses entirely on AI, and NVIDIA builds the chips. Now, the question is how long the run on hardware will continue. At some point, hardware needs are saturated, and AI software companies will generate high profits with their software solutions. The software creates value for the customer. NVIDIA is currently creating the basis for this.
